2022 Nissan Rogue: Enhanced Performance and Fuel Economy

The Nissan Rogue is a longstanding success in the Canadian compact SUV market, blending power, comfort, and advanced technology to produce a family vehicle that consistently rides high in the best-seller charts. The model was given a major revamp in 2021, improving its interior and exterior design while also boosting the levels of advanced technology offered as standard.

But the 2022 model year sees yet more improvements added to the Rogue lineup. A new engine provides exceptional performance at an impressively frugal fuel economy, and is paired with a revised transmission that makes the drive smoother and more responsive. If you're looking for the best that the family compact SUV format can offer, these are the features that put the 2022 Nissan Rogue at the head of the pack.

Improved Performance, Better Fuel Economy

The high point of the 2022 Rogue's powertrain is a new, advanced engine design that takes the SUV to new levels of performance and fuel economy. Although the 1.5L three-cylinder format may at first glance suggest a low output, the addition of a turbocharger and automatically adjusted compression ratio means it can deliver a hefty 201 horsepower and 225lb-ft of torque, a welcome increase from previous model years.

As standard, the output is passed through a continuously variable transmission to front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available as an option. In both cases, the new Rogue is much livelier and more responsive than its predecessors, with greatly improved acceleration either from a standing start or when ramping up the revs to pass on the highway.

But despite the substantial increase in power, the 2022 Rogue actually posts better fuel economy figures than before with a highway rating of just 6.7L / 100km and a city figure of 8.4L.

Classic Compact SUV Design

The 2022 Rogue adds a fresh twist to the familiar compact crossover body design, with waspish headlights and an angled grille giving the front end a real sense of dynamic confidence. The assertive impression is increased by the large wheel arches, while the chunky outline is softened by plenty of curved sculpting that leads back to the high rear. And while the Rogue might be built to a compact format, the cabin is impressively spacious. It makes the most of the sturdy SUV profile to provide plenty of legroom for passengers, and also a cargo capacity of 1,028L with all seats upright or 3,732L with the second row folded down.

The interior layout is equally well designed, with plenty of storage cubbies providing convenience for family journeys, and a bi-level dashboard keeping all controls to hand while creating a spacious and uncluttered feel. Depending on the trim level, the seats are clad in soft cloth, faux-leather, or semi-aniline hide upholstery, with heated front seats and steering wheel available at the higher trim levels.

Advanced Interior Technology

The cabin also boasts a high level of interior technology to go along with its spacious comfort. The standard infotainment system is built around an 8" touchscreen display at the entry-level, although an expanded 9" unit is available as an upgrade. Easy smartphone integration is provided by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while in-built navigation and a high-end Bose sound system are both available options.

Moving up to the top end of the 2022 Rogue lineup, the Platinum trim adds extra instrumentation through a 12.3" digital gauge cluster complete with configurable layout options, alongside a 10.8" head-up display and a wireless pad to keep smartphones fully charged. And lastly, multi-device connectivity is provided through the optional Wi-Fi hotspot feature, offered on all trims above the entry-level.

Active Safety and Driver Assist Features

A generous level of safety tech is always a standout feature of Nissan vehicles, and the 2022 Rogue fully lives up to expectations in this area. The active safety and driver-assist features are provided by Nissan's Safety Shield 360 system, with standard and available highlights including:

  • • Forward collision warnings with pedestrian detection and automated emergency braking.
  • • Automatic rear braking to avoid collisions when reversing.
  • • Blind spot monitoring for safer lane changes on the highway.
  • • Rear cross-traffic alerts to avoid collisions when backing out of a parking space.
  • • Lane departure warnings to alert if the vehicle starts to drift sideways without an active turn signal.
  • • Automatic high beams to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers.

And lastly, higher trims are available with the ProPilot Assist adaptive cruise control system which can automatically manage speed and safe distancing, complete with a semi-autonomous driving mode for hassle-free highway driving.
